The Association was formed in the early 60’s to provide the area with good affordable loch fishing.

The various committee members put in countless hours of hard work over the years to form a first class fishery. Perch and pike were removed, a pier and a boathouse were built and the loch was heavily stocked with rainbow and brown trout.

Rescobie Loch Work is still carried on by the present committee to ensure that the fishery maintains its reputation for quality hard fighting fish in excellent condition.

Rescobie Loch is a relatively shallow water of 200 acres which provides rich feeding throughout the year resulting in some really fine over wintered specimens. The loch record at present stands at 7 Lb 4oz for a brown trout and 17lbs 10ozs for rainbow and there is little doubt that there are comparable if not larger trout in the water. Why not take a look at the Records Page. The 2001 season average weights were: brown trout 2lbs and rainbow 2lb 4oz.

The fishing is run from the boathouse, which is adjacent to the B9113 Forfar to Montrose road. The boatman is present between the hours of 0830 and 1030 to issue bank and boat permits, electric motors can also be hired at that time. It should be noted that motors can only be hired between the hours of 0830-1030 and 1700-1800. Outwith those hours an honesty system operates for permits.

Tickets are sold on the understanding that anglers are familiar with and will abide by the rules of the loch.
